Key Terms

Coulomb's Law

The fundamental equation that describes the electric between two charged particles, stating it's directly proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance.

Electric Field (E)

An invisible 'force map' around a charge, defined as the electric force per unit test charge at any point in space.

Electric Potential Energy (U)

The stored in a system of charges due to their configuration, or the work done to bring those charges together. It is a scalar quantity.

Electric Potential (V) / Voltage

The electric potential energy unit charge at a given location, representing the 'energy landscape.' It is a scalar quantity, measured in Volts.

Equipotential Lines

Lines (or surfaces) that connect all points of electric potential, always perpendicular to electric field lines.
