Key Terms

Confidence Interval

A range of _ values for the true population mean, built on a point estimate plus or minus a margin of error.

Point Estimate

A single value, like the sample mean (x̄), used to _ an unknown population parameter.

Margin of Error

The extent of the interval on either side of the point estimate, calculated by the critical value multiplied by the _ __________ of the mean.

t-distribution

Used for inference about means when the population standard deviation (σ) is _ and we use the sample standard deviation (s) as an estimate.

Degrees of Freedom (df)

A value (n-1) that describes the shape of the _-distribution; as it increases, the t-distribution approaches the normal Z-distribution.
